The brand-new Magnum is a terrific looking vehicle that will get your neighbors talking as you rumble around the block. The unique styling of the Magnum will also bring in gawkers through 18-22 years of age men pointing for their pals to “inspect that out”. And a few people will approach you as you are filling the gas tank to ask, “Does it truly have a Hemi?”, with just an unclear notion that it somehow makes the vehicle much better. The Magnum is offered with numerous various engine sizes (either a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder) with your option of horse power output of 190, 250, 340 and 425. The price of the car also corresponds with the engine size beginning at $30,345 to the pricey STR-8 model for $37,320. A huge part of the mystique around this vehicle is the Hemi engine. The Hemi is short for hemispherical combustion chamber, which develops more effective fuel burning and allows larger valves for much better air flow. Basically, it produces more power than an engine with its displacement would usually produce. (There are also downsides to the Hemi, which is why it isn’t really the only engine that Chrysler produces). The interior of the vehicle looks far more pricey than you ‘d anticipate for the price of the Magnum. Because Mercedes bought Chrysler, the Dodge cars I’ve sampled have had a sharp enhancement in interior quality. While on the road, the vehicle is very strong and the seats are comfortable even on long highway runs. As much as I like the appearances, after driving it a while I truly have to question the design principle that the Magnum offers. It is a station wagon built to transport a great deal of people and a great deal of stuff. However mating this with an effective engine with the taught racing-like suspension is uneasy for both. It is like having a Corvette tow a little trailer, and you remain in the trailer and the Corvette driver is 15 years-old, pushing the vehicle to its limitations. (Only a real Corvette has a much more comfortable suspension than the Magnum). Even driving on smooth roads, the steering is very darty and hard to control. And with a large vehicle, all that weaving and road feedback is exaggerated for the guests and everything you’ve stored in the back. I like having a navigation system, but determining the best ways to use it with the steering wheel controls made me regularly refer to the user’s handbook. In spite of the high horse power and low-end torque I played with when beginning from a full stop, the RT model I drove averaged 20 MPG on the higway. Exactly what I presume to be the target audience for this vehicle, those 18-22 year-old men that I pointed out, will most likely love this vehicle. And as much as I love driving sports cars, the darty steering and sharp suspension make it too uneasy without any amazing payoff. The 0-60 sprint is enjoyable for a little while, but I ‘d pass on buying a Magnum as a daily driving car.
