The brand-new Magnum is a terrific looking car that will get your next-door neighbors talking as you rumble around the block. The special styling of the Magnum will also draw in gawkers in the kind of 18-22 year old men pointing for their good friends to “check that out”. And a few people will approach you as you are filling up the gas tank to ask, “Does it really have a Hemi?”, with just an unclear concept that it in some way makes the car better. The Magnum is used with various engine sizes (either a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder) with your choice of horse power output of 190, 250, 340 and 425. The cost of the automobile also refers the engine size starting at $30,345 to the pricey STR-8 design for $37,320. A huge part of the mystique around this car is the Hemi engine. The Hemi is short for hemispherical combustion chamber, which creates more efficient fuel burning and allows bigger valves for better airflow. Basically, it produces more power than an engine with its displacement would typically produce. (There are also disadvantages to the Hemi, which is why it isn’t the only engine that Chrysler produces). The interior of the car looks much more pricey than you ‘d expect for the cost of the Magnum. Since Mercedes bought Chrysler, the Dodge cars I’ve sampled have actually had a sharp enhancement in interior quality. While on the road, the car is extremely strong and the seats are comfy even on long highway runs. As much as I like the appearances, after owning it a while I really have to question the style concept that the Magnum offers. It is a station wagon constructed to transport a great deal of people and a great deal of things. But mating this with a powerful engine with the taught racing-like suspension is uncomfortable for both. It is like having a Corvette tow a small trailer, and you are in the trailer and the Corvette chauffeur is 15 years-old, pressing the car to its limitations. (Only an actual Corvette has a a lot more comfy suspension than the Magnum). Even owning on smooth roads, the steering is extremely darty and hard to control. And with a large car, all that weaving and road feedback is exaggerated for the guests and whatever you’ve saved in the back. I like having a navigation system, but finding out ways to utilize it with the steering wheel controls made me frequently describe the user’s handbook. In spite of the high horse power and low-end torque I played with when starting from a complete stop, the RT design I owned averaged 20 MPG on the higway. Exactly what I presume to be the target audience for this car, those 18-22 year-old men that I mentioned, will probably enjoy this car. And as much as I enjoy owning sports vehicles, the darty steering and sharp suspension make it too uncomfortable with no spectacular benefit. The 0-60 sprint is enjoyable for a little while, but I ‘d hand down buying a Magnum as a day-to-day owning automobile.
