Speaker 1: Today in this 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we’ll be having a look at and showing you how to install the draw tite class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 75699.Here’s what our hitch looks like installed. As you’ll notice, our hitch is tucked up nicely behind our fascia here. The only part you’ll see hanging down is our class three receiver itself. On the side of our receiver, you’ll find our industry standard 5/8th of an inch diameter hitch pin hole to secure a hitch amount of accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip on our website, it’s part number PC3. Towards the rear of the receiver, you’ll find a smaller hole, that’s for a J-pin stabilization device.
What that does it take away the annoying shake, play and rattle out of what is inserted in your receiver. We have one of those available on our website as well. Welded on the bottom of our receiver is our tubular steel safety chain loops. We can use these to attach the safety chains from our trailer. We have a fairly decent sized opening, so we shouldn’t have much problem at all hooking on those safety chains.
Welded on the back of our receiver, we have this nice collar that gives us a nice finished look and helps reinforce the strength of the opening.This hitch features a 500 pound max tongue weight rating, which is the amount forcing down and a 5,000 pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull. It does support the use of weight distribution, and we’re using that on our trailer. Our tongue weight rating increases to 750 pounds and our max gross trailer weight rating increases to 7,500 pounds. You want to make sure you consult with the owners manual of your Grand Cherokee, and not exceed what the vehicles rated for. Go by whichever number is less.Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessory you may need such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
You’re looking at about 15 inches from the ground, the top of the two inch receiver opening and about 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the rear most part of the back bumper.Now that we’ve gone over some features, we’ll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install will be the back of our Jeep, in the center section. If we look up towards the inside edge of our driver side frame rail, we’ll find two 21 millimeter bolts. We will remove these bolts and reuse them to secure our hitch in to place. Our passenger side is a mirror image of this.Now, with an extra set of hands we’ll raise our hitch in to position.
We’ll reinstall our factory bolts. Okay, with all of our bolts started, we can now tighten them down. Now, we’ll twerk all of our hardware the amount specified in the instructions.That completes our look at and showing you how to install the draw tite class 3 trailer hitch receiver, part number 75699 on this 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
