Today on our 2017 Toyota Sienna we’re going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118648. So here’s what our wiring looks like when it’s installed. We’re going to have a 4-pole flat trailer connector, and it’s going to give us all our required lights to go down the road, such as our turn signals, stop lights, and clearance lights. The built-in dust cover, we can use it to actually secure our wiring to our hitch, that way it’ll be ready right here whenever we’re ready to tow. Now that we know what it looks like when it’s all finished up and installed, let’s show you how we got it there. To begin our installation, we’re going need to open up our rear hatch so we can gain access to the tail lights. Now each tail light is going to have two fasteners holding it in place.

Now, I’m going to use a 10 millimeter socket to remove those. We’re going to go in and repeat that on the other side, as well. Now, when we go to remove our tail light, we’re going to want to grab it as firmly as we can, and pull straight back. You don’t want to go too much side to side, because there are some pins that are holding it in place. So if you can, you can grab the plastic edge towards the center, get your hand behind it, and pull straight back. Now, we’re going to have two connectors inside of here, and each one is going to have a small tab on top, so we’re going to want to push in on that tab, and we should be able to slide the connector out.

We’re going to go and repeat that same thing on the passenger side, as well. Now, per the instructions, they are going to have you pull up a lot of panels on the interior of our vehicle, but we found an easier way to get our wiring installed. Now, per the instructions, the wiring would stay on the inside of the vehicle, but we’re actually going to be mounting our wiring to our hitch on the outside. So, I’m going to start on the passenger side, and I’m going to take a piece of airline tube that I had laying around, and you can use whatever you have available, even a coat hanger’ll work, but I’m going to take it and go in between my bumper here and the body, and I’m going to feed this down until it comes out the bottom, underneath my car. So, where my airline came out of the bottom of my bumper, I’m going to take my green wire with the two connectors, and my red and brown wire with the two connectors, and I’m going to take a little bit of electrical tape, and I’m going to tape it to the end of my airline tube. Now we can go in and grab the other side of the airline tube, and start pulling it up. I’m going to take a little bit of patience in help guiding it up. Now that our connector’s up top, I’m going to go ahead and remove the tape and the airline tube.

We’ll notice that the connectors are going to look very similar to the ones on our vehicle, and we’re going to want to plug in the female into the male end, and the male into the female end. Now, we’re going to have a four and a three prong socket plug, and you’re going to want to make sure you plug them in to the corresponding ones. Now coming out of our converter box, we should have a white wire with a ring terminal attached, and that’s going to be for our ground. Now, they do provide us with a self tapping screw. I’m going take the self tapping screw and secure it to the floor. Now, we’re also going to have a black wire coming off our converter box, and this is going to need be ran up to our battery.

Now, they do provide us with a length of wire that we can attach to it. So, I’m going to take a butt connector, and they do provide us some in our kit, but I’m going to be replacing this with a heat shrink butt connector, that way there’s just a little bit more protection against moisture build up and corrosion. On the end of my wire, it’s already pre-stripped, so I’m going to insert it into my butt connector and crimp it down. Now I can take the length of wire that they provide us in our kit, and I’m going to strip back one end of it. I’m going to go ahead and put it into the other end of my butt connector and crimp it down. I’m going to be using a heat gun to shrink down my connector. I just want to mention you want to be careful not to char the wire or the connector itself. Now, we’re going to find a spot to mount our converter box, and they do provide us with some doubl
